My second day of internship at Weber Shandwick was last July 23 (Friday) and my third day was last July 30 (also a Friday). I don't just look forward to Fridays because it happens to be one of the best days of the week for gimmicks and hanging out with friends, but because on Fridays I go to Weber Shandwick. And on those days I get a further glimpse of what PR is all about.
I was assigned to contact media companies to update them of an event of a client, update the database of Weber Shandwick's network connections, and continue gathering articles and press releases. My fellow interns, Kara and Jean, and I were assigned to create a detailed PR plan for a client, identifying the objectives and the tactics to pull it off in the most efficient way. All these tasks albeit confined within the walls of the office gave me an eye-opener on how a PR firm such as Weber Shandwick should work beyond just sitting in front of an computer or reading newspapers. It meant a whole lot of networking, monitoring competitors of clients, and making sure that the clients were satisfied.
Yet for some strange reason, lunch break was always the most amusing part of the day. Because walking through the hustle and bustle of Ayala Avenue just to look for a place to eat already made me feel alive and corporate. It was during this time that Kara, Jean and I would be sharing insights about our internship and it would always surprise us how lunch break period seem too short. :)
