KASANGBAHAY

You guys know weeks before that I already conceded in applying for big networks. Ever since, I really want to join small networks or production outfits. This is where I want to start. The hands-on feeling in these networks exceed the claim-to-fame internship IDs given by huge networks when in fact, more often than not, we are not doing anything there since the pool of “talents” is already full. Evidence to this is seen in many of our batchmates shifting to another network in pursuit of better training.

As of this entry, I am officially an “on-the-job trainee” of UNTV channel 37. It is still a growing media institution with almost 70% of programs pre-recorded, among the blocktimers are Ang Dating Daan of Bro. Eli Soriano and Bitag Production of Ben Tulfo. From ten (10) internship applicants, we were screened and come up with only four (4). Of course, my fierce UP ID and education gives me an automatic edge among others so I was elected as OJT Team Head. The employees and interns are few relative to other networks so people know us and it is a good feeling that people know and call you by your first name. I am assigned in the News and Public Affairs and last Monday (August 2, 2010), my first task was to write news about an accident in Kamuning, QC that will air on the same day in their regular evening broadcast news Ito ang Balita. This make-or-break-first-impression blah did not fail me. The exact draft that I wrote was the same script aired only with minor revisions to fit in the 30 seconder spot. It was a good feeling that first, I contributed to the show’s success and second, to people’s right to know.

This is just the beginning and wether I make it or not until October, this good vibes in my UNTV internship will make this 21-unit-plus-PE semester a good one.

This is it. “Thesis” really is it. Chill.

PS. As of this writing, taking pictures are not allowed in the production area, they require a request letter from the BC Department.
