The internet broke down when I was sending the press release for Failon Ngayon to my head. Through a couple of trials and clicks, I realized that I wouldn’t be able to hit send soon. I approached Sir J about my dilemma. When I was saying my piece, I noticed how he was kept distracted by the television. I tilted my head a little to check what was keeping his attention. Goosebumps came all over me in a swift when I saw my friend Von playing the P1 Million round of Open Susi Me in Pilipinas Win na Win. Tightly, I crossed my fingers hoping to bring his luck higher. He has less than 50 seconds to choose from 12 keys to open the 1 million peso door. He tried the first key and then the second… time was running out. I felt my heart halt as it anticipates. It was the third key (or was it the fourth?)that brought him his victory. I could utter no other words but “OMG”. Then the other employees in the department echoed my expression.
Suddenly, I was pulled out from the state of astonishment as Sir Ryan grabbed me to head down the studio to accompany him to take pictures of the new millionaire. Along with us came Adore Saluta or Lola A as we fondly call him. He (or maybe she) is a columnist for several tabloids such as Bulgar. He needed to conduct a quick interview with the winner.
A few minutes of waiting, the show ended and the stars passed by in front of us to head to their dressing rooms. We saw Von walking with them so we followed their direction. After he talked with the management, all three of us approached him. Before Lola A could introduce himself Von and I were jumping and embracing each other. He was still in tears when I saw him and I witnessed how happy and grateful he is.
So that’s what it feels like to be with someone who just won a million pesos. Interesting. It’s weird, but in a way I was also overwhelmed and felt like a winner.
It was not long before I hit my record button and the interview began. When asked why he joined the contest, Von said he was in it for the fun and experience, and winning the grand prize was far from what he expected. It was hilarious when Lola A asked him if he has a girlfriend. He only replied, “Si Faye po ang nakakaalam niyan,” then we bursted into laughter. With no more questions left in mind, Lola A and I thanked Von for his time.
It’s amazing how internship led the way for me to take a glimpse of my friend’s blessed moment.
