By the end of my third week, three of my articles are expected to be posted on e. the first one would be one of the food articles, the second is the one featuring the different boutiques and stores, and the third is about a famous child actress of the 1990’s who is now working in ANC.
I dialed the operator and ask for Agatha Tapan’s local. I called her to confirm if the interview I scheduled the other week will still push through. Luckily she said yes. Half an hour before her shift ended, I went down at ANC to wait for her. After a couple of minutes she waved at me to come with her. We entered the conference room and began the interview.
Agatha entered the showbiz industry when she was about eight years old. She was among the cast of the longest running soap opera in the country, Mara Clara, where she played the role of Denise. She also starred in Trudis Liit as Oreng which won her awards for Best Child Actress from FAMAS, MMFF and Parangal ng Bayan. In the big screen she worked with a lot of celebrities like Maricel Soriano, Tirso Cruz III and many others. Despite the achievements, she chose to make a big decision to leave the limelight and focus on her academics. She was about 14 when that happened.
I was very curious to learn the reason behind her decision. She told me that it was a change of priorities and a change of heart. She added that though at times she misses acting, she is thankful that she made that decision because it brought her a sense of fulfillment, a different kind from what she gained from showbiz.
She devoted her time not just in studying but also being active in church. She said that she grew fun of being a Sunday school teacher in their parish. This experience brought her closer to God and to herself. A step away from a career oriented life allowed her to see that there are so many other things that she can learn and do.
Agatha now works at ANC as a Business Development Specialist. As of now it seems that she is enjoying her place under the sun.
I had a swell time with her. Agatha’s simplicity and lightness made the session a casual chit-chat. I learned a few new things not just about her, but also about the industry and life itself.
