Week 3-4
--
Press Releases are usually given to publications for blasting at least two days before the airing of the episode. This is to give enough time for editors to lay-out the materials. My boss is responsible for the publicity of Matanglawin, Failon Ngayon, XXX and Studio 23 to name a few. So whenever I go to work on Wednesdays, I usually write press releases for the said programs. By the end of the day, I should come up with two press releases for each program, written in English and Filipino. Changing the tone of my writing and translating words are the challenges I have to bear with. It must have spice for tabloid readers while it must have sense for broadsheet readers. It really takes a lot of patience to write the whole day about things that I am not interested with. :
However, I always try to find something unique about the story that would enlighten me to finish the press release. It may be about an outrageous behavior, famous personality, senstitive story or anything that would tickle my curiosity.
Here are some of the press releases I wrote that were published in various tabloids.
(Matanglawin, cited in Pang Masa, 24 July 2010)
(Failon Ngayon, cited in Tiktik, 24 July 2010)
(XXX, cited in Abante Tonite, 26 July 2010)
In between writing press releases, I also get to work on media values wherein I counter check, count, copy, paste, print and collate. Microsoft Excel may be technical, but using it makes me feel like a pro. "Hey, I'm an accountant and secretary all in one! I'm great with numbers! :D" I like it more though because I don't have to think that much. Coming to class the whole day is really draining so whenever I'd do my internship, all I ask for is to sight celebrities :)
