DAY 1 - July 02, 2010
Week 1
- - -
Today, I officially started my internship at the Public Relations Department, Corporate Communications Division of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation.
I was asked to report at 9 in the morning of that day, but my immediate head arrived at 10 in the morning. An hour of waiting was just okay because I was able to take a breather and familiarize myself to the office and the receptionist :-) When Sir Jan arrived (my immediate head, PR Writer), I was asked to read on some PR accounts and press releases. I even received a bottle of Real Leaf drink from him while I was reading. After wards, I was briefed with my tasks for the day and eventually started working. I had my own personal computer and cubicle shared with Sir Jan.
My first task was to write a press release for “XXX” (episode for July 05, 2010) to be released on the same day. I have with me the episode summary and some press releases that Sir Jan wrote himself as my references for my write-up. I should come up with an article written both in English and Filipino with their own target market respectively. It was hard in the sense that I have to translate a write-up written in a monotone voice to something that would appeal to tabloid and would interest the readers of broadsheet. But in the end I was able to finish it just before I take a break for lunch.
Lunch time was box-office because The Loop area of ABS-CBN was filled with supporters of PBB Teen Clash of 2010 - Big 6. But I still had a good lunch with my co-interns, Faye and Clara. When I came back to the office, I was able to meet the PR Director Mr. Kane Choa and the Head for Corporate Communications, Mr. Bong Osorio. It was nice to finally meet people you just see on TV.
My second task for the day was to write a forum article and interview ABS-CBN employees on their take with President Noynoy’s administration. I have co-written the article with Faye who was also under Sir Jan’s supervision. At 3 in the afternoon, we had to leave for the OJT orientation which was facilitated by the HR Dept. that was held at the same building of our office. After attending the said orientation, we went back to the PR Dept. and finished our forum article. We were able to send the files at around 6:20 in the evening. The experience of interviewing random people was great because I can say that it really challenged my interpersonal skills :-)
At the end of the day, my first day of internship was a blast! No doubt I was able to detail it like this one. It just means that I was giddy enough in “making kwento” about my experience. What can I say, the “taga-timpla ng kape” epic did not happen to me, at least on my first day. And if it will, why would I bother, right? I believe that everyone needs to go through with it because it’s in the smallest things that we learn to appreciate the blessings in our lives ",) What a mouthful! Haha!
