Emma Manalac: Week 1 - June 28 - July 2

I was aware that by entering GMA I would not be asked to do big things like participate in a production. I was just there to learn from the best. On my first day, Ate Shelly, one of the features segment producers of Unang Hirit, asked me to submit proposals for their show every week. From the examples she gave me, I realized they featured the most mundane things on earth like a bathroom make-over, fiestas in different towns and different factories. I didn’t know where to start. Among the other things I did on my first day were to contact possible guests for next day’s episode like the owner of Alambre Warriors and to research on Noynoy’s feet size.

It wasn’t a slow day at the office; people were making calls; people were typing something on their computers; a lot were cramming their stories for the next day. Did they even realize they had an intern there? Staring blankly on my notebook, I asked myself what was I doing there. It was sad that I didn't have friends there too. But I knew that it was my responsibility to make use of the great opportunity. I had to look forward to something...

On Wednesday, I volunteered to cover the inauguration of Noynoy for DZUP. I woke up at 3am, met with my fellow interns at 5.30am and went to Quirino Grandstand. It was a very fulfilling and historic day and I was so glad to be part of it. Aside from witnessing the entire program, I also enjoyed watching different news reporters do their live coverage. I saw Arnold Clavio, Vicky Morales, Ces Drilon and Pia Hontiveros. Jem and I were also asked to cover for the Noynoy Street party at the Quezon City circle. I did a live phone-patch coverage for DZUP.

On Thursday, even though I was still tired from the Inauguration coverage, I woke up early to attend the Trivia Ten episode recording. I was a scriptwriter for Trivia Ten. The show, together with my producer and hosts, was very fun to record! We were all just laughing at the studio every time Rachel and Audrey would give their comments on the topic.

Even though I still felt lost about my internship in GMA, I was still very proud of my little accomplishments on my first day there. On the other hand, though I had to sacrifice a lot of my time for DZUP, I was very happy that I got the best opportunities to enjoy my radio internship.
