August 5, 2010- Wednesday
Today was our recording of the College of Home Economics program’s pilot episode. Our call time was before 10 AM, but Kim had to be earlier since Mam Jo assigned her to fetch the CHE Alumni President Mrs. Eevie Escudero, CHE Dean Mrs. Lady Mayo, and HE Professor Echel from CHE. Andrea and I were left in the recording room to prepare everything that we need before the recording.
When Kim came together with our guests, Andrea and I helped her assist them. However, we were so shy because they really looked like elites specially Chiz Escudero’s mom and the CHE dean. Good thing Mam Jo came just right in time since we really felt awkward orienting them since we were just students, when they were the ones superior to us both in age and status. We held the meeting at the Faculty Lounge in the Phil. Star room so as to give them a more formal welcome, and since it’s the most formal room we have in CMC.
We were introduced to them and then Mam Jo started the meeting. She mediated the meeting while we discussed and let them choose which of the music we had they want for the OBB & CBB. We had music for the 80’s and some instrumental songs, but we were shocked because they picked the modern and pop one. We also discussed the content of the merchandising plug that we have just recorded yesterday and they liked it. There were just some terms in the script which solicited violent reaction from them like the one saying that the program will talk about pagpapamilya, pag-aalaga ng bata.., etc. since they think it stereotypes Home Economics as a form of discipline only intended for mothers. We then settled for a more politically correct term. After that, they already went to the recording room while I was left editing and doing the finishing touches for the script. Mam Jo told me to just print the script to the Broadcast Dept. thru Ate Nanette. I went there but Ate Nanette said some excuses about the printer and then pointed me instead to Kuya Louie. I went to Kuya Louie and asked if I can print my script there, but he got quite upset when he found out that Ate Nanette refused to do it and pointed him instead since it’s her job, and not his. He printed it anyway but told me to report the incident to Mam Jo.
After printing, I went straight to the recording room, gave them the script and then they started rehearsing. We were about to start when we found out that they didn’t have any script. We thought they just left it or something, but they said they really didn’t have any. We were amazed by the fact that they were so confident, and so we started. Kim was the director while I was the technical director. However, we got so delayed since there were a lot of technical problems. One was when we can’t hear the audio coming out from the speaker, the microphones not emitting any sound, the microphones falling off from their stands, and the earphones not emitting any sound. Kim, Andrea, Mam Jo, and I tried to troubleshoot the problems but everything just kept messing up so we had to kidnap Kuya A from his current commitment from another class since we were already so embarrassed of the inconvenience we were causing. Kuya A came but he wasn’t able to troubleshoot the technical problems as well, not until after quite a time. Mam Jo just joked Mrs. Escudero that maybe the equipment were saying that the sponsors already need to change them. Everything was already okay when we started, when once again, the microphones came falling down. Kuya A had to fix it from time to time since the stand was no longer in its normal functioning state.
However, their throwing of lines went so smooth including their transition from one topic to another. We finished by 1 PM, and by then we saw that they enjoyed the recording process even though it was all their first time.
